Watercolor Monogram Frame

Hello friends. Larissa here today with a fun watercolor monogram frame for you. The big rage right now is monogramming. At least here in the South it is. I have been cleaning and organizing my craft studio and wanted something with my initials to sit on my work table. So of course I had to make something.

Supplies used:

Ann Butler Designs ColorBox Crafter’s Ink: Berry
Ann Butler Designs 2″ Flourish ABC’s
Cup of water
Paint Brush
Black Ink pad
Acrylic Block
Watercolor Cold Press paper
Heat Tool
Clear Acrylic frame
Embellishment
Hot Glue

What I did:

Mash the Berry ink pad onto a glass surface or acrylic block.
Paint a light layer of the ink in the middle of the paper.
Dry the color with a heat tool if you can’t wait.
Pick up the Berry ink with a brush full of water.
Splatter the ink all over the watercolor paper.
Once dry stamp your monogram or word in the middle of the watercolor paper using black ink.
Decorate the frame with embellishments of your choice. I used flower ribbon I had.

You could do this same thing with your favorite word or if you have a word for the year you could use it to remind you each day.

Crafter’s Ink Stained Gift Box

The holidays are fast approaching and I always like to present a gift in a handmade container, especially gift cards. It provides you the opportunity to give a generic gift card in a personalized gift box – elevating it to the next level!

I have recently discovered that Colorbox® Crafter’s Ink pads by Ann Butler can be used to stain wood – SWOON! This opens up a whole new world for me in moving beyond fabric and paper with my ink pads and stamps!

Now on to my project…

In a well-ventilated area, spray painting the outside of a craft store octagonal wooden box with Wood Tone Spray Paint, let dry.

Place craft store balsa wood slats on a protected work surface, (like an old towel) mist lightly with water and apply Colorbox® Crafter’s Ink by Ann Butler: Ocean Breeze, Limelight, Blueberry, Deep Woods, Evergreen and Aquamarine in sweeping motions. Let ink dry completely. To achieve darker tones, mist and apply a second layer of ink.

Apply Tombow Xtreme Adhesive to the back of slats and attach to the lid of the wooden box in a vertical pattern to follow the lines of the box.

Flip box over onto a self-healing mat and trim off excess with a craft knife.

Finish trimmed ends with Colorbox® Crafter’s Ink by Ann Butler and ColorBox® Art Daubers, to create a detailed application of ink to wood.

Create Faux Stitching on the top of your gift box with the NEW Colorbox® Background Basics Stamps by Ann Butler – Stitch Stamps and Colorbox® Crafter’s Ink by Ann Butler, Bark. I have to say that I LOVE these new Stitch Stamps, they are the perfect addition to Ann’s line of Faux Quilting stamps! Let ink dry completely.

Amish Inspired Faux Quilted Kitchen Towel

I am obsessed with quilting even though I can’t really sew. Sounds like a contradiction, but it isn’t when you have Ann Butler Designs Faux Quilting Stamps! These stamps give anyone the opportunity to quilt like a pro on any surface!

I was recently inspired by the black background and bright colors of Amish Quilts, so I created a kitchen towel to celebrate this dramatic style of quilting.

Now on to my project!

Measure and cut an 18″ by 8″ piece of The Warm Company Warm & Natural batting. Arrange Ann Butler 2″ square Faux Quilting Stamps by Unity Stamp Co.: Leaves All Over; Stripes Dots Hearts and Doily Picnic on an acrylic stamp block. Ink each stamp with Colorbox® Crafter’s Ink by Ann Butler: Lilac, Berry, Limelight and Aquamarine. Mist lightly and stamp on Warm & Natural batting. Repeat until the length of batting is filled with stamped images.

Select coordinating Ann Butler 2″ triangular Faux Quilting Stamps by Unity Stamp Co.: Leaves All Over; Stripes Dots Hearts and Doily Picnic on an acrylic stamp block. Ink each stamp with Colorbox® Crafter’s Ink by Ann Butler: Lilac, Berry, Limelight and Aquamarine. Mist lightly and stamp on Warm & Natural batting under square images. Repeat until the length of batting is filled with stamped images.

Once the ink is dry, cut out with sharp scissors.

Pin batting to terry cloth kitchen towel. Attach using a sewing machine and black thread by stitching around and through square stamp blocks. Leave triangular stamp blocks un-stitched to create additional interest and dimension.

These Amish Inspired Faux Quilted Kitchen Towels go together quickly and easily, so you can stamp up and stitch up a whole bunch to give as gifts this holiday season. The perfect Hostess Gift for the Thanksgiving or Christmas party season.

Fall Votive Candle

Hi everyone, Steph Ackerman here today with a decorative Fall Votive Candle.

Supplies:

ColorBox Crafter’s Ink by Ann Butler – Tangelo, Limelight
Earth Safe Finishes Iridescents – Tangelo, Limelight, Onyx
Votive
McGill Punch
Wilton Doily

With the advent of fall and the change of seasons comes the beautiful colors of fall. Ann Butler Designs has beautiful colors that were perfect for my project.

I first etched the glass votive with Etchall dip’n etch. Etching with etchall creates a “tooth” surface that allows you to apply all kinds of mediums to glass. Etchall allowed me to paint the glass with Earth Safe Finishes Iridescents. Using my fingers I painted on Tangelo Iridescents. Next, I painted on some Limelight Iridescents.

Finally, I randomly added some Onyx Iridescents.

The leaves were created by inking white cardstock with ColorBox Crafter’s Ink in Limelight and Tangelo, spritzing with water to allow the colors to mix, then punching them out.

The leaves were then spritzed with water and scrunched. After heat setting, the leaves were inked with additional Tangelo Ink and Onyx Iridescents was painted about the edges of each.

Then I painted a doily with Limelight and Tangelo Iridescents. I thought the candle would look pretty sitting on it.

Not only does the candle smell pretty, it looks amazing too.

Background Basics Quilted Box

I recently purchased several wooden boxes on clearance at my local craft store. They had a recessed lid and I thought they would be great for a multitude of crafting projects. First up is a Quilted Box using my Ann Butler Designs Background Basics stamps and Crafters Ink from Clearsnap.

Here’s what you need:

Ann Butler Crafter’s® Ink by Clearsnap – Limelight, Aquamarine, Lilac and Berry
Colorbox® Background Basics Stamps by Ann Butler – Checks, Diamond, Basket and Picnic
The Warm Company – Warm & Natural Needled Cotton and Soft Soft High Loft
Design Master ColorTool – Glossy Wood Tone
Wooden Box 6″ by 6″ with recessed lid; Sewing Machine; Tan Thread with Bobbin; Water Mister; Orange Button; Yellow Embroidery Floss; Chenille Needle; Scissors.

Here’s how to make it:

1.) In a well ventilated area, spray wooden box with Glossy Wood Tone, let dry. Apply a second coat, if necessary.

2.) Stamp each of the four Colorbox® Background Basics Stamps by Ann Butler – Checks, Diamond, Basket and Picnic with the Ann Butler Crafter’s® Ink by Clearsnap – Limelight, Aquamarine, Lilac and Berry on an 8″ by 8″ square of Warm & Natural Needled Cotton. When stamping on fabric, ink stamp, mist with water and stamp on batting to create a more crisp and vibrantly stamped image.

3.) Layer stamped batting with Soft Soft High Loft. To quilt, sew around outside edge and between stamped images.

4.) Thread chenille needle with yellow embroidery floss and sew orange button in center of stamped and quilted batting.

5.) Trim any uneven sections of batting with scissors and dry fit into box lid. Glue stamped and quilted batting on to box lid, let dry.

Fill your Quilted Box with sewing notions, special presents or even a gift card.

Then the gift box becomes part of the gift and a handmade keepsake!

Stenciled Table Mat

Hello Friends! Vishu here today with a quick and easy Table Mat using Ann Butler Designs.

I can’t believe how quick the summer is slipping by and we are already half way through. My goal has been to make every sunny day count before the snow takes over and I have also been on a recycle and upcycle spree. I found the table mat while cleaning up the basement and decided to give it a new life.

Products Used:

ColorBox® Art Screens by Ann Butler (Lattice)

Earth Safe Finishes Iridescents by Ann Butler Aquamarine

Crafter’s Ink by Clearsnap: Night

Earth Safe Finishes Gesso

Instructions:

1. Apply a layer of ESF Gesso and let it dry. The table mat is originally made of wooden strips so covering it with Gesso was important to make a good base.

2. Apply a layer of Earth Safe Finishes Iridescents by Ann Butler in Aquamarine

3. Once dry use art screens by Ann Butler and dab the pattern using black ink.

Stamped Faux-Quilted Home Sign

As many of you know, I am in a new house and this new house needs many things – like a Stamped Faux-Quilted Home Sign!

Living with blank walls can be tough but I don’t like hanging artwork unless it belongs and contributes to the feel you want for your home… I love the way Ann’s faux-quilting stamps fit and blend together. When I found this ‘home’ sign at Joann’s in the clearance area I knew it was perfect for my project. It is rather large, though it doesn’t look too big in the photo, and it was nice to be able to design it in one of my favorite color palettes: brown, blue, and beige.

What Did I Use:

Domestic Bliss Decor Sign – wood
DecoArt® media FLUID ACRYLIC™, Titanium White
Ann Butler ColorBox Crafter’s™ ink, Desert Sand, Blueberry
Ann Butler Clearsnap faux-quilting stamps: picnic
Ann Butler Faux Quilting Stamps, Diamonds
Ann Butler’s Colorbox Crafter’s Ink: Desert Sand, Blueberry
DecoArt® Metallic Lustre™ Cosmic Blue, Iced Espresso
Clear Embossing Powder
Heat gun
Soft cloth, water, raffia or cord, metal embellishments

How Did I Do It?

Paint the wood with 2 coats of Titanium White. Let the first coat dry before applying the second.
With a sponge smear some Desert Sand over parts of the white surface.
Ink your 2 stamps with Blueberry and alternate stamping the 2 patterns. I found the 2″ stamp size worked best for the configuration of the letters.
Pour clear embossing powder over entire piece and heat set it with a heat gun. Be patient because it can take a while to cover this size of surface.
Once the embossing has cooled down, take the Metallic Ice Espresso and rub it into some of the non-embossed spaces. Buff it up.
Then do the same with the Cosmic Blue.
Attach your metal sentiments to your word art, use the enclosed wall hanging tape, and attach your beautiful new sign to the wall.

Easy Jewel Tone Painted Pots

Hi all! It’s Carmen today and it’s my turn to share with you a fun project made using Ann Butler Designs products. I think that little flower pots are so cute so I always have a stack in the house ready for crafting. This project uses minimal materials and tools so you can whip up a bunch of these quickly for unexpected gifts. I used the luscious Ann Butlers’ Iridescents by Earth Safe Finishes which come in lovely jewel tones that take pots from plain to elegant.

Here’s how:

Materials:

Ann Butler Designs Iridescents by Earth Safe Finishes – Berry, Lilac, Lagoon, Sheer Bronze, Copper Powder

Plain terra-cotta flower pots

Tools:

Paint brushes, Color Box Art Daubers

Instructions:

1. Paint each pot with a base coat in your choice of Earth Safe Finishes. Apply 4-5 coats letting the paint dry between layers.

2. Mix a big spoonful of the Copper Powder it the Sheer Bronze paint. This will brighten up the paint. Stir well with a brush.

3. Use a small brush to paint stripes on the pots using the Sheer Bronze paint. Add dots by using the Color Box Daubers dipped in the Sheer Bronze paint. Let dry thoroughly.

That’s it! This is a fun way to coordinate pots and containers. Add a few tiny gifts and you’ve got a quick and easy last minute gift for unexpected celebrations. Enjoy!

New Home Décor – Welcome Sign

Hi everyone, Steph Ackerman here today using Ann Butler Designs Iridescents from Earth Safe Finishes™ to create a new home décor – Welcome Sign.

I wanted to create a pretty, but rustic looking, home décor project. I first began by painting a wood sign with Sheer Copper Iridescents along the top and Pearl Iridescents along the sides. Once dry, I added a bit of texture using the Basket1 Stamp from ColorBox® Background Basics by Ann Butler Designs which I also painted with Sheer Copper Iridescents. I repeatedly painted and stamped the board until it was covered.

I wanted large letters on the sign so I lined Ann Butler Designs Flourish stamps from Kellycraft on the panel. Then I inked the stamps with Deep Woods Colorbox Crafter’s Ink®, then embossed with clear embossing powder.

A number of flowers were painted with a combination of Sheer Copper and Pearl Iridescents, assembled and then adhered to the board.

To finish my home décor project, I placed rhinestone swirls about the flowers.

Faux Quilting on a pillow

Good morning friends. Larissa here with faux quilting on a pillow I made using Ann Butler Designs Basic Background Stamps and Inks from Clearnsnap Inc.
I started out cutting a piece of muslin in a 8×8 square.
I used:
ColorBox® Background Basics by Ann Butler Checks 1
ColorBox Crafter’s® by Ann Butler Berry
ColorBox Crafter’s® by Ann Butler Aquamarine
Fabri-Tac Permanent Adhesive by Beacon Adhesives
KellyCraft EZ-De’s Flourish ABC’s Alphabet Polymer Stamp Set, 2-Inch

I took the muslin and laid it out and then stamped the Checks Background Stamp 4 times. I then took letter L and stamped it on a smaller piece of muslin.

I glued the L on to the top of the pillow and then glued all 3 sides of the pillow using the Fabri-Tac and then stuffed the pillow with Poly-Fil.

I sealed the 4th side with the Fabri-Tac.

I added a small button to the top of the piece with the L for a little decoration.

Since I really don’t sew this Fabri-Tac has become my new friend. I have made a few more of these pillows to add here and there around the house. They are the easiest thing I have ever done. The stamps and ink add a personal touch.
I encourage you to try stamping on fabric. This is such and easy technique and I know you will love it.
