Stenciled Faux Quilted Pin Cushion

Create a Faux Quilted Stenciled Pin Cushion with my EZ-De’s Stencils from StencilGirl® and pigment ink.

This Faux Quilted Stenciled Pin Cushion is a quick and easy project for the sewer in your life!

Step 1:

Choose one of the 3″ half triangle patterns and place it on one piece of muslin 1/2″ from one edge. Then, ink up a dauber and apply the ink over the pattern.

Remove the stencil and see the nice clean crisp design.

Remove the stencil to reveal the inked pattern

Step 2:

Continue creating the pattern by placing the long edge of one of the 1 1/2″ triangles along one of the short edges of the triangle you just created…line it up so that the edges meet…in the picture below I am showing that you can see if you are over the edge you can easily see it…so just take a minute and line it up…

and ink it up…remove the stencil and look how great those 2 stencils came together.

Step 3:

Create the pattern by placing one of the short edges of another of the patterns of 1 1/2″ triangles along one of the short edges of the triangle you just created…ink it up…below you can see the pattern being created in the color of Blueberry…and again see how great these stencils line up.

If you are more comfortable, use painters tape to cover the other patterns on the stencil, to keep from inking in the wrong place or to use as guidelines if needed.

Use painter tape to mark off unwanted stencil parts

Step 4:

Repeat steps 1 – 3 to complete the block.

Use baby wipes to clean off your stencil. Heat set with an iron or heat gun.

Step 5:

Place the batting onto the back of the stenciled block. Stitch on the top side around the block and where the patterns come together.

Stitch around the pattern leaving a 2" opening

Add a 2nd piece of muslin on the right side of quilted piece and stitch around the edge, leaving about a 2″ opening. Trim the excess as needed.

Step 6:

Turn to the right side and stuff with batting.

Stitch the opening closed.

Step 7:

Sew an optional button through the center, if desired.

Faux Quilted Stenciled Market Tote

Good Morning y’all! Beth here with @creativelybeth to share the Faux Quilted Stenciled Market Tote that I created with the brand new Ann Butler Designs Hexagon Stencil from StencilGirl! Make this quick and easy project in just about an hour and go to the market in style!

Here’s how to create a Faux Quilted Stenciled Market Tote:

Step 1:

Iron out any wrinkles on the market tote. Each Hexi Flower has six hexagons, so start in the lower left-hand corner of the market tote. Apply a light coat of Ann Butler’s Stencil Tac Adhesive on the back of the stencil, let dry and then place the stencil down on the fabric.

Place the stylus tip on the stylus handle and tap gently into the Aquamarine ink until the color has transferred on to the pad of the stylus tip. Use small circular motions when applying the ink to the stencil. Move the stencil and then repeat until there are three complete hexi flowers.

Step 2:

Select a second image from the Hexagon Stencil to create the center of each flower. Tap a clean stylus tip gently into the Lilac ink until the color has transferred on to the pad of the stylus tip. Use small circular motions when applying the ink to the stencil. Clean off the stencil with a baby wipe before moving on to the next color.

Repeat the step above with the Sunshine and Berry inks and clean stylus tips.

PRO TIP: I keep a stylus tip inked up in each ink pad color and then store them in a plastic zipper bag so they do not dry out.

Step 3:

Select a third stencil image from the Hexagon Stencil to create the leaves surrounding the Hexi Flowers. Tap a clean stylus tip gently into the Limelight ink until the color has transferred on to the pad of the stylus tip. Use small circular motions when applying the ink to the stencil.

Step 4:

The design looks a bit plain. Add faux stitching outlining each hexagon using the bullet tip of the MONOTWIN Permanent Marker.

Once the ink has had a chance to dry overnight, heat set the design with an iron to create a permanent design that is washable.

Sewing up a Family Scrapbook Page

Hi! Candice here with a quick and easy way to try Sewing up a Family Scrapbook Page.

This page embodies a quote about families. Ann Butler’s quilt-themed stamps make it perfect!

Step 1:

Choose a patterned paper and select Ann Butler Colorbox Crafter’s Inks to match. Trim the patterned paper to make an 11 1/2 “ square. Draw a pencil line 2 3/4” from the edge on the left side of the page. This will not show, but only make it easier to line up your elements.

Step 2:

Stamp two pieces of 2 3/4” card stock in each color. Mount one of each on a black 3” square of card stock.

Tips:

Using a card stock color which is similar to the ink colors makes the squares blend with the paper.
Mounting the first three squares on black card stock helps make the images pop.

Step 3:

Line up two of the mounted squares, one on each end of the pencil line. Place the points of each square on the line to make sure it stays straight. Only use adhesive in the center of each square. Place the third square in the center, overlapping the points of the first two squares. Slide the remaining unmounted stamped squares under the mounted ones along the edge. Trim off the excess. Line up the mounted squares along the pencil line and tuck the remaining squares behind the mounted ones.

Step 4:

Using two pieces of white die-cut card stock, add trim along the edge of the squares.

Stencil FAMILY on white card stock and trim each letter. Mount each letter on black card stock.

Note: the trimmed squares will not all be the same width, but keep the height the same for continuity. Adhere the mounted letters across the top of the page.

These beautiful stenciled letters add a wonderful effect to your page title.

Note: Placing the mounted letters in a random pattern relieves you of having to worry about alignment.

Step 5:

Mount the photo on black card stock. Apply the adhesive only to the bottom and sides of the photo to allow a pocket to be formed and adhere it to the page. Print or write your journaling info, add a folded block to the top of the tag and insert it behind the picture.

Note: For extra personalization, hand-write your journaling. It won’t show in the initial layout, but your descendants will be thrilled to see it.

Step 6:

Print the quilt quote on white card stock. Using the large Ann Butler Rhinestone Genie oval template, trace the oval on the back side of your card stock and trim.

Tip: Holding the printed image up to a window or using a light box enables you to get this straight. Mount the white oval on black card stock and trim the edge with decorative scissors. Place the oval back over the quilt quote. Using matching pens to color in the circle around the edge. Mount the oval so that it just covers the edge of the photo.

Note: This in an out-of-the-box use for your Rhinestone Genie templates. The use of rhinestones would be a little too fancy for this page, but the pens are perfect.

Step 7:

Mount the page on black card stock to give it a nice finished look.

Faux Quilted Hoop Pumpkins

Good Morning Y’all! Beth with @creativelybeth here to share these fun Faux Quilted Hoop Pumpkins to celebrate that Fall is right around the corner! Quick and easy to create with limited supplies with such a cute result!

Here’s how to make Faux Quilted Hoop Pumpkins

STEP ONE:

Using a stylus, add ColorBox Crafter’s Ink by Ann Butler in Tangerine to the wooden embroidery hoops.

STEP TWO:

Tape down natural muslin to work surface with painter’s tape. Mist fabric lightly and apply Tangerine Crafter’s Ink with a stylus tool. Let dry.

STEP THREE:

Measure and cut two 36″ lengths of satin seam binding ribbon and place in a zip-top plastic bag. Mist generously with water, then add 6-8 drops of Crafter’s Re-Inker in Limelight and scrunch plastic bag until the ribbon has been dyed. Let dry on paper towel.

STEP FOUR:

Randomly stamp the Background Basics Basket, Picnic, Diamonds and Checks stamps directly on to the dry fabric with Crafter’s Ink in Tangerine.

STEP FIVE:

Layout the dyed ribbon on a paper towel and stamp randomly with the Background Basics Stitch Stamps and Crafter’s Ink in Evergreen. Continue until all of the ribbon has been stamped.

STEP SIX:

Stretch fabric over the embroidery hoops, tighten the screw at the top, then trim the excess fabris at the back.

STEP SEVEN:

Tie a double bow at the top of each embroidery hoop to create leaves and vines.

These faux quilted hoop pumpkins are perfect for Fall, but add eyes, a nose and mouth with black felt to create a spooky set of Jack-O-Lanterns to create a double duty craft project!

Fall Stamped Faux Quilted Table Runner

The crisp clean, fresh air of Fall is here so I thought I would create a Fall Stamped Faux Quilted Table Runner using my Faux Quilting Stamps and Crafter’s Inks.

This Fall Stamped Faux Quilted Table Runner is quick and easy and can be created in an afternoon!

Step 1:

Start the first row approximately three inches down from one of the short edges of one piece of muslin. Stamp once with color of choice using a square background basic of choice, leave in place and then, stamp the second row…again with colors of choice and 2 different square background basics stamps.

Step 2:

Continue with third row using colors of choice and 3 square background basics stamps. The forth row stamp with 1 triangle, 2 squares followed with 1 triangle. Continue rows three and four, 5 times. Then, repeat rows 3, 2 and 1 to finish the pattern.

Step 3:

Heat set with iron.

Step 4:

Layer Soft & Toasty behind stamped muslin followed by the second piece of muslin.

Step 5:

Stitch between stamped images and then…

around the outer edge of stamped pattern.

Step 6:

Trim close the stitched outside edge of the stamped pattern.

Step 7:

Glue trim around the outside edge. Let dry.

Hand Stamped Quilted Barbie Blanket and Pillow

Hello, Donna here to share a Hand Stamped Quilted Barbie Blanket and Pillow!

My granddaughter had asked me to make her Barbie a blanket and a pillow a few weeks back. How could I refuse when she looks at me with her big brown eyes and asks in her sweetest voice

“MeMe PLEASE!

Will you make my Barbie a Pillow and a blanket?” So I asked her if she would like it in any special colors, she states “no”, anything is fine as long as you make it. She than adds….don’t cheat and buy one! Really? I am laughing by now and agreed that I would make it and would not cheat and buy one!

So I thought I would put Ann Butler’s Faux Quilting Stamps to good use and make her a Hand Stamped and Quilted Barbie Blanket and Pillow.

Let’s get started!

Step 1:

Gather all materials. (Wash and dry your fabric with no fabric softener before stamping)

Step 2:

Cut material to size (I cut mine to 13″ x 17″) Mark lines with a fabric Mark B Gone pen.

Step 3:

Start stamping your pattern and repeat until finished.

Step 4:

Using Heat N Bond® fusible fleece for the batting, follow manufacturers instructions to adhere top of quilt to fleece. This will also heat set the inks.

Step 5:

Pin the back of quilt to the front of quilt, backside of materials together.

Step 6:

Using a sewing machine, stitch following the squares on the quilt top. If you would like to get fancier you can. I kept it simple.

Here is a close up.

Step 7:

Bind the quilt using double fold bias tape.

Step 8:

I stamped out my pillow as I was doing the quilt stamping. No particular size. Follow all the same directions as above 1 through 6. Once quilted, cut back to fit front of pillow, place right sides together and pin. Sew almost all the way around leaving an opening for stuffing.

Step 9:

Stuff and stitch closed.

Next, you give it to your 8-year-old granddaughter who is so appreciative, it makes you feel like you have just handed her the whole world!

Before I get to the materials needed, I have to share pictures she has taken with my phone of her Hand Stamped Quilted Barbie Blanket and Pillow. Now remember she is 8.

1 – is “yoga”. 2 – is she is mad. 3 – just chillin’. 4 – is a pillow fight. 5-she is wishing that Farris (my g-daughter had a matching blanket……I think that was a hint) 6 – is one I took, but hers are so much better! I enjoyed her pictures so much, I hope you do too! She took about 40 more on my phone! LOL!

DIY Stamped Gift Box

Hi Everybody! Vishu here today to show you how to make this DIY Stamped Gift Box using popsicle sticks colored entirely with Ann Butler Designs Crafter’s Ink from Clearsnap.

This is a great DIY stamped gift box for any occasion and can be easily customized to bring a personal touch to your gifts.

Without further adieu lets get started……………

Step 1:

Firstly to create this DIY Gift Box, I painted the popsicle sticks using Crafter’s ink. I needed 4 popsicle sticks in canyon and aquamarine for each layer of the box. Also , I created the base of the gift box.

Step 2:

Next, I painted the base of the box using Canyon ink, by simply applying the ink directly to the popsicle sticks. These inks work quick and easy on the wooden popsicle sticks.

Step 3:

Once the base was ready and dried, I stacked and alternated 4 of the canyon popsicle sticks and 4 of the aquamarine popsicle sticks for each layer. I simply glued each layer into a square, which made alternating them go quickly and easily, see photo below.

Step 4:

Now, I worked on the top piece of the box. which was pretty similar to the base except for I colored it with the aquamarine ink and stamped it using Ann Butler Design 1″ Faux Quilt stamps.

Step 5:

Lastly to finish up this DIY Stamped Gift Box, I attached the top on using ribbons so the box can be opened and closed. The final step was to embellish the top cover using rhinestones and mirrors.

I think that this DIY Stamped Gift Box turned out great, I might use it to gift my friend with some jewelry in it.

Faux Quilted Pinwheel Pillow

Today I am sharing how to create a Stamped Faux Quilted Pinwheel Pillow using my Background Basics Stamps and Crafter’s Inks. This is…oh so Quick & Easy to make!

Here’s how I created this Faux Quilted Pinwheel Pillow

Step 1:

I stamped out my pattern by inking up each stamp and placing them closely together, to get even spacing around each stamped pattern.

I started by stamping with the square Checks in Blueberry and Basket in Ocean Breez on the left side of the fabric in the following order: 1 Checks 2 Basket and 1 more Checks.

For the second row I stamped 1 Basket square in Ocean Breeze then, used the Picnic triangle in Berry and Diamond triangle in Aquamarine, followed by the Picnic triangle in Sunshine and the Diamonds triangle in Tangelo, ending with the Basket square in Ocean Breeze.

For the third row I stamped 1 Basket square in Ocean Breeze then, used the Diamond triangle in Limelight and the Picnic triangle in Evergreen, followed by the Diamonds triangle in Sand and the Picnic triangle in Lilac, ending with the Basket square in Ocean Breeze.

For the fourth row I repeated row one.

Step 2:

Heat set the ink with a dry iron.

Step 3:

Place the stamped block onto the Soft & Toasty Quilt Batting…

Then quilt the two layers together by sewing between each of the stamped blocks. Sew all the way around the outside of the block, this will give you a guide for the next step.

Step 4:

Place right sides together of the quilted top layer and the backing fabric. Stitch around the outside leaving a 2 inch opening.

Step 5:

Fill the pillow with Poly-fil and then, stitch the opening closed.

Step 6:

Sew a large button to the center using a tapestry needle and Kreinik thread.

That’s it…now you have a Stamped Faux Quilted Pinwheel Pillow…Quick & Easy!

Quick and Easy Faux Quilted Napkins

Beth, here on the blog today to share with you my quick and easy Faux Quilted Napkins. I’m always hunting the clearance sections at my favorite stores and these linen napkins with the hot pink lace trim were a real score at 97 cents each at Cost Plus World Market!

Here’s how I made my Quick and Easy Faux Quilted Napkins:

STEP ONE:

Wash and dry the cloth napkins, then iron to remove wrinkles. Select your monogram letters and set aside.

STEP TWO:

Load Ann Butler’s Colorbox® Background Basics stamps with Ann Butler’s Colorbox Crafter’s® Ink, mist lightly with water then stamp onto corner of napkin. Repeat with second napkin.

STEP THREE:

Position Joy 3″ embroidered script letter in corner of napkin on top of stamped design. Iron on according to package directions. I use a small craft iron with no steam holes to create a strong bond. Repeat with second napkin.

And you are done, easy as one, two, three! These napkins would make a great housewarming gift, teacher appreciation gift or wedding gift!

Red Work Inspired Sampler Part 4 – Finishing Touches

Hi everyone, this is Chantal here, with the Finishing Touches for our Red Work Inspired Sampler. First, may I say thank you to all of you for stitching along with me for our Red Work Inspired Sampler featuring Ann Butler’s Crafter’s Inks and Background Stamps from Clearsnap. I hope you have enjoyed learning new stitches while combining stamping on fabric, and if you are a seasoned stitcher, the joy of continuing to work with needle and thread. I would like to share with you a few of the Finishing Touches ideas and inspirations and as always a few Success in Stitching tips.

I chose to create a pillow with my sampler using a simple quilting technique by creating a border on the outer edges and adding mother of pearl buttons to the back. The possibilities are endless on what you can do with your sampler, so sit back, pour a glass of sweet Ice Tea and let’s get started on the finishing touches of our sampler….

Trim all threads close to the stitching and press sampler from the backside or use a pressing cloth
Cut fabric strips to the desired width plus seam allowance.
Pin 1 fabric strip to the left side and one to the right side, right sides together and aligning raw edges. Using sewing machine, sew a straight stitch

Trim threads; press seams to one side.
Pin 1 fabric strip to top and 1 fabric strip to the bottom, right sides together, aligning raw edges and sew as in step 3.

Trim threads; press seams to one side.

***Add lace, buttons or embellishments, if desired.

Cut a second piece of fabric, larger than the size of the now pieced sampler.
Cut the piece in half, fold over extra fabric on one side so as to make the two pieces equal to the pieced sampler.

Pin right sides together; stitch around all 4 sides. Trim corners; turn right side out. Press to flatten seams.

Fill the pillow with down, fiberfill or choice of stuffing. Pin closed

Sew buttons to back of pillow to close opening.

Success in Stitching Tips

*When trimming threads be sure to trim close to the fabric and press threads so they are not visible when finishing the sampler

* To frame the sampler, use a mat to keep the glass from resting directly onto the sampler.

*This sampler (depending on the size) would also make a lovely pocket for a hostess apron!!

*Try to avoid using the sticky back canvas as overtime; it could damage your sampler.

*When pressing embroidery or needlework, use a pressing cloth or press from the back so as not to damage the stitches.

*When using red embroidery thread, DMC is the only true colorfast in red, meaning it will not run or smear if it gets wet.

*Your sampler is a work of art and a work of your heart…treasure it, create more and explore new embroidery!!!
