Crafter’s Ink Quilted Christmas Stocking

Did you know that you can color fabric with Crafter’s Inks?  I’m going to show you how easy it is and then share how to create this quick Crafter’s Ink Quilted Christmas Stocking.

Step 1:

Ink up a color blender with Limelight Crafter’s Ink and apply to fabric.

Blend until you have the color desired.  Continue with assorted tone-on-tone fabrics with Evergreen and Deep Woods.

Step 2:

Heat set.

Step 3:

Tear colored fabric into strips in assorted sizes between 1″ – 2″ and then, cut 2 stockings from Toasty Cotton batting from Fairfield.

Step 4:

Place 2 strips onto one of the stockings right sides together, stitch onto the stocking and then open.

Step 5:

Continue to sew strips to the stocking until it is covered.  Turn the stocking over and trim excess fabric from around the edges.

Step 6:

Place the second stocking onto the quilted stocking and stitch around the edges.

Step 7:

Stitch the small piece of fabric, right sides together along the long side, turn to the right side and fold in half for the hanger.  Set aside.  Stitch the  short sides of rectangular batting piece together,  Fold in half, wrong sides together and place on the top of the inside of the stocking, placing the hanger on one edge.  Stitch in place.

Turn to the outside of the stocking.

Fall Stamped Faux Quilted Table Runner

The crisp clean, fresh air of Fall is here so I thought I would create a Fall Stamped Faux Quilted Table Runner using my Faux Quilting Stamps and Crafter’s Inks.

Fall Stamped Faux Quilted Table RunnerThis Fall Stamped Faux Quilted Table Runner is quick and easy and can be created in an afternoon!

Step 1:

Start the first row approximately three inches down from one of the short edges of one piece of muslin.  Stamp once with color of choice using a square background basic of choice, leave in place and then, stamp the second row…again with colors of choice and 2 different square background basics stamps.

 

Step 2:

Continue with third row using colors of choice and 3 square background basics stamps.  The forth row stamp with 1 triangle, 2 squares followed with 1 triangle.  Continue rows three and four, 5 times.  Then, repeat rows 3, 2 and 1 to finish the pattern.

Step 3:

Heat set with iron.

Step 4:

Layer Soft & Toasty behind stamped muslin followed by the second piece of muslin.

Stitch between stamped images and then…

around the outer edge of stamped pattern.

Step 6:

Trim close the stitched outside edge of the stamped pattern.

Step 7:

Glue trim around the outside edge.  Let dry.

Faux Quilted Pinwheel Pillow

Today I am sharing how to create a Stamped Faux Quilted Pinwheel Pillow using my Background Basics Stamps and Crafter’s Inks.  This is…oh so Quick & Easy to make!

Here’s how I created this Faux Quilted Pinwheel Pillow

Step 1:

I stamped out my pattern by inking up each stamp and placing them closely together, to get even spacing around each stamped pattern.

I started by stamping with the square Checks in Blueberry and Basket in Ocean Breez on the left side of the fabric in the following order: 1 Checks 2 Basket and 1 more Checks.

For the second row I stamped 1 Basket square in Ocean Breeze then, used the Picnic triangle  in Berry and Diamond triangle in Aquamarine, followed by the Picnic triangle in Sunshine and the Diamonds triangle in Tangelo, ending with the Basket square in Ocean Breeze.

For the third row I stamped 1 Basket square in Ocean Breeze then, used the Diamond triangle in Limelight and the Picnic triangle in Evergreen, followed by the Diamonds triangle in Sand and the Picnic triangle in Lilac, ending with the Basket square in Ocean Breeze.

For the fourth row I repeated row one.

Step 2:

Heat set the ink with a dry iron.

Step 3:

Place the stamped block onto the Soft & Toasty Quilt Batting…

Then quilt the two layers together by sewing between each of the stamped blocks.   Sew all the way around the outside of the block, this will give you a guide for the next step.

Step 4:

Place right sides together of the quilted top layer and the backing fabric.  Stitch around the outside leaving a 2 inch opening.

Step 5:

Fill the pillow with Poly-fil and then, stitch the opening closed.

Step 6:

Sew a large button to the center using a tapestry needle and Kreinik thread.

That’s it…now you have a Stamped Faux Quilted Pinwheel Pillow…Quick & Easy!

Recycle that Old Cardstock with Iridescents

Most of us have extra cardstock in our stash that could use a new look!  Maybe you bought too much of it, no longer have a need for it, or simply no longer like it!  I know that I have a lot of cardstock that I will never us as is…so I decided it was time to Recycle that old cardstock with Iridescents!

 Above is a picture of one piece of card stock I have that I will never use as it is.

I decided to collage it a bit for a new look and make it something I would actually use in some of my projects.  I love mixed media and thought it would be the perfect solution to recycle this old cardstock!

It was time to Recycle that Old Cardstock with Iridescents.

Step 1:

Dry brush Earth Safe Finishes White Gesso over the cardstock, as desired.

Dry brush gesso over the cardstock.

Step 2:

Tear up some old paper or music sheets.  Adhere randomly to cardstock with Earth Safe Finishes Gel Medium.

Glue on some old paper or music sheets.

Step 3:

Brush Ann Butler’s Iridescents, in colors of choice, onto the cardstock.  Apply more gesso and then, Iridescents until you get the desired result.

Step 4:

Add rub-ons, if desired.

Here is a picture of the final piece!
It has great dimension and can be used for so many things.
It turned out wonderful and was quick and easy.

Think Green and give it a try!
Turn some of the cardstock you have piled up
but might never use as it is so, recycle it into something you will use!

Gel Press Stamped Resin Coaster

Today we are Blog Hopping with ETI Resin and Gel Press!  I am going to share how to create a Gel Press Stamped Resin Coaster.  The plus side is that it is a Faux Quilted design!

Here’s how to create it:

Gather all of your supplies!

Use a toothpick to apply several drops of Iridescent’s to the Gel Press.  Then, take a brayer and blend the colors together.

Simply, place a piece of cardstock over the press and rub.  Pull the cardstock away.

I love the result!  I had not used a Gel Press before and LOVED how easy it was.  I made several more background pieces, as it is quite addicting!

Stamp out a quilt pattern onto the dried cardstock with Deep Woods, and then. heat set it.  Use a paper trimmer to cut it down to the size of the tile you are going to use.

Use Ultra-Seal™ to attach the design to the tile and then give it two generous coats on the top, letting it dry completely between coats.

Following the manufacturer’s instructions, measure out equal amounts of EnviroTex resin and hardener…

Then stir for 2 minutes.   Pour the mixture into a second cup and stir for another minute.

Then, pour the mixture onto the tile (which I had lifted up off my work surface), and spread it out to the edges.

Wipe away any excess that may drip off the sides.  Use a lighter to remove any air bubbles that rise to the top.  Let dry 12 – 24 hours.

The end result is a beautiful Faux Quilted Resin Coaster!

Choose a 2″ Triangle, two 1″ Triangles and a 1″ square from the Faux Quilting line and place them onto an acylic block to create a square as shown.  Using Archival Dye Ink…

Four times to create a pinwheel pattern.

Choose 4 – 6 colors of the Ann Butler Crafter’s Ink.  Using daubers…

Add colors to the image.

Cut the image to 4″ and heat set.

Cut a piece of yellow card stock 4 1/4″ x 4 1/4″.  Using Ultra-Seal…

Attach the yellow card stock to a black 4 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ tile.  Center and attach the pinwheel design on top of the yellow card stock with the Ultra-Seal.  Apply two coats of the Ultra-Seal on the top layer, let dry.

Measure out equal amounts of the hardener and resin of EnviroTex Lite, stir two minutes.  Pour into a second cup and stir for another minute.

Place the coaster up off the surface.  Pour resin mixture onto the top of the coaster.

Use a disposable brush to move the resin to the edges and to catch the drips that run off the edges.

Use a lighter to remove the air bubbles, if any.  Let dry for 24 hours.

Faux Quilted Foil Card

I love Foil and the fact that therm-o-web has come out with it in the perfect size for card making!  I also love that I am able to combine it with my stamp line and today I am showing you how-to create a Faux Quilted Foil Card.

I started with a 1″ square from the Leaves All Over and the Stripes. Dots. & Hearts stamp sets.  I began by stamping a pattern onto a sheet of white card stock with ColorBox® Archival Dye Ink in Wicked Black.

I alternated with the two stamps to create a pattern 4 wide by 5″ high.

I then had photocopies made of the design I stamped out.  Please note: in order for the foil technique I am doing to work, you will need photocopies from a laser printer of your original, this technique will not work with using ink or an inkjet printer.  Trim to desired size.

Place foil on top of your design and sandwich it with a  folded piece of copy paper…

Place the folded side of the sandwich into a laminator.  The laminator I am using is one that I have had for years, I do not believe it is sold any longer, there are many new ones on the market but if you do not have one….no worries…

You can do this technique with an iron as well.  Simply layer your design with foil and a sheet of copy paper and iron.  Be careful not to go back and forth, simply hold the iron in one place for 10 – 15 seconds, lift and move the iron and repeat.

Pull the foil away and you will see that it adheres to your design.  Start by lifting at one corner, if needed, place the foil back down and iron again.

I stamped out some sentiments and made photocopies of them also.

The design I foiled was 4″ x 5″, to layer and create a card I cut a piece of yellow card stock 4 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ and a piece of white card stock 9″ x  5 1/2″ (which I folded in half to create a card base that is 4 1/2″ x 5 1/2″).  I also cut a piece of yellow card stock 1/4″ larger and a piece of white card stock 1/2″ larger then the sentiment I chose.   Attach the design to the yellow card stock and then to the card base.  Then, attach the sentiment to the yellow card stock and then to the white card stock and adhere to the card front as desired.

Inking up with the Groove Tool

I received The Groove Tool by ART-C to try out in my studio so, I decided to try Inking up with the Groove Tool and my Inks.  I must say I was pleased with the results.  I gathered some of my ART Screens  and Crafter’s Inks from Clearsnap…

Then I got 2 AA batteries to put into the groove tool.  The tool is extremely lightweight and comes with 4 attachments: ink tip, brush tip, course sanding tip and a fine sanding tip.

I placed my Stars Art Screen onto a piece of white card stock then, I attached the ink tip (the tips just pop on and off)  to the Groove Tool, dabbed it onto my Blueberry ink pad and turned on the tool.  It is very quiet and easy to work with…I started at one corner of my ART Screen  and moved in a circular motion downward.

I was able to ink up the entire area in one inking.  I love how the ink shaded from dark to light, if you do not like this look you could simply go over the areas again, depending upon how much ink you put on the first time there may still be plenty of ink left to touch it up.

I can see lots of uses for this tool for blending inks also.

Since I work with resin quite a bit and had just finished a piece that needed a bit of sanding I thought I would try the groove tool on it.

The edges were a bit thin and needed sanding so I attached the course sanding tip and went around the edges of this Christmas ornament.  I did have to hold the ornament in my hand to sand it, although for the photo I am just showing the edge I was going to sand.

I then attached the fine sander and lightly went around the edge again to finish it off.

This was easy to do and only took a couple minutes.

I think this little tool is a good addition to my studio and will be using it often.

The pillow above was stamped with Crafter’s Ink on muslin in the following colors:Blueberry, Ocean Breeze, Sunshine, Tangelo, Lilac, Berry, Limelight, Aqua Marine, Ever Green, Deep Woods, Sand and Canyon…with all of the Background Basics Squares and Triangles.  They, ironed to heat set.  I added batting and quilted between the squares and triangles, then quilted diagonally.  I added a backing and stitched around the edges, leaving an opening to turn.  Then stuffed with fiber-fil and stitched the opening closed.  I added a button to the center for an accent.

The above hot pad was stamped with Crafter’s Ink in Blueberry and Ocean Breeze on unbleached muslin.  Then, ironed to heat set.  Batting and a backing was added, then I sawed between the blocks…and a binding was sewn on.  Quick and Easy!  Now check out the rest of the Blog Hop to see what the fabulous designers from the Designer Craft Connection have come up with….
