My project this month features stamping and painting on sneakers. ( I really had to force myself to write sneakers, and not ‘running shoes’ as we call them in Canada).
I picked up a cute, and extremely inexpensive, pair of white sneakers when I was on my recent trip to Chicago; they were immediately earmarked for an Ann Butler Design team project. We all know that Ann’s Crafter’s™ ink was designed specifically for fabric especially because it reacts so beautifully with fabric and retains its vibrancy. What intrigued me, though, was how would her Earth Safe Finishes Iridescents powders fare? So let me show you…
What did I use?
- Earth Safe Finishes Iridescents by Ann Butler: Sky, Leaf
- Colorbox® Crafter’s™ ink by Ann Butler; Blueberry
- Colorbox® Art Screens by Ann Butler, Lattice
- Water
- Ink dauber
- Paint brushes
How did I do it?
- First of all, you should be aware that when using Iridescent powders, a little goes a LOOONG way!
- Remove the laces from the shoes and set aside.
Before the painting and stamping begins! TIP: stuff the shoes with paper or something that will give you a harder, more stable surface to stamp and paint on.
- Mix a small amount of water with a tiny bit of leaf, and the same with the sky.
- Using a small, but stiff brush, paint the trim with sky, and then accent with leaf.
- Paint the tongue in sky/ and the trim of the tongue in leaf; do the same with the back of the shoes.
- Using the Lattice screen, paint some areas in leaf. Using the dauber fill in the other areas with blueberry.
- Let the shoes dry.
- Paint the shoelaces in both leaf and sky, and let them dry.
- Spray with Craftin’ Craft Resin Spray and let dry.
- Put on them kicks and go for a crafty run!
