I seem to have notebooks and post-it-notes everywhere around me, so I thought the perfect project to make today would be a Faux Quilted Oly-Fun™ Notebook Cover. Oly-Fun™ is an awesome material from Fairfield™ that is inexpensive and oh so very versatile.
Here’s how I created this Faux Quilted Oly-Fun™ Notebook Cover…
Begin by cutting a piece of White Oly-Fun™ 15″ x 9″ and setting one aside. Gather an assortment of 1″ Square Faux Quilting Stamps and 6 – 8 colors of Crafter’s Inks.
Starting at the upper left corner begin stamping with the squares, alternating colors and stamps to create a pleasing pattern.
Continue until the entire piece of Oly-Fun™ is filled. Place a pressing cloth over the stamped Oly-Fun™ and heat set with an iron.
Cut a piece of Soft & Toasty Cotton Batting and a piece of White Oly-Fun™ 17″ x 11″. Layer the stamped piece with the batting in the middle and the White Oly-Fun™ on the bottom. Pin if desired.
Machine stitch diagonally through the center of each stamped square, in both directions.
Machine stitch around the stamped image, 1/4″ from the outside edge. Trim away the excess.
For a decorative front, trim away two triangles on one end. Zigzag stitch around the entire edge about 1/4″ from the outer edge. Trim away all threads as needed.
At this point be sure that your notepad fits properly. I decided to trim 2″ off the notepad so that it would fit easily into my purse, so then I also trimmed another 2″ off my cover and re-stitched the cut off edge with a zigzag stitch.
Adhere the hook side of the sticky back adhesive onto the notepad. Place the loop side on top of the hook side to line them up and then, attach the notepad into the center of the wrong side of the cover.
Optional: Add a pen using sticky back adhesive as shown, to always have one handy.
Sew a button to the front flap. Then, attach some sticky back adhesive to the back side of the flap and the front of the cover for closure.
